That's the lesson of "Iron Man," which goes light on CGI fireworks but heavy enough on its most electrifying element – Robert Downey Jr. – to compensate.
Charismatic and impish, Downey plays on his bad-boy image as Tony Stark, billionaire industrialist and weapons dealer turned metal-clad crusader for justice. Introduced in a Humvee, cocktail in hand and cockiness all over, Stark has nowhere to go but toward a consciousness-raising epiphany.
