Four years after the earlier adventures of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her best gal pals, she and her intermittent lover, Big (Chris Noth), are in a committed relationship. Sex and the City: The Movie" is like a visit from dear old friends. Dear old friends who stay too long and spend much of the time moping around.
For a film based on a colorful show that celebrated the fast-paced Manhattan life, "Sex and the City: The Movie" is an oddly subdued affair, from its muted visuals to its melancholic midsection to its unsatisfactory ending.
But for die-hard fans of the HBO series that ended in 2004, the film is still worthwhile, if only for the chance to see Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) together again.
