Aiming for profound, "Seven Pounds" stalls at maddeningly coy.
For at least an hour of its run time, this Will Smith vehicle shields its intentions in half-explained scenes. All we know, essentially, is that Smith's character suffers emotionally, lives in a beach house and oversteps the bounds of his job as an IRS agent when he audits people.
Past and present merge, scenes rarely flow together, and Smith, in attempting to find a way to play a sketchy character, often looks lost. More lost, even, than the audience. (Full review)
"Seven Pounds" opens with Ben Thomas (Will Smith) making a 911 call regarding his upcoming suicide. (Full review)
