The X-Files: I Want to Believe
Though FBI special agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and his partner Dr. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) once chased things that go bump in the night, his tireless search for the truth out there has led to his professional exile. However, a missing-persons case leads to the agents' reunion, along with an encounter with a priest (Billy Connolly) who may or may not be experiencing psychic visions.

Offering a self-contained story and plenty of background detail, "The X-Files: I Want To Believe" doesn't aim exclusively at devotees of the long-running Fox television series. But those devotees, already invested in the characters and able to pick up nuances, probably will appreciate it most.
For the rest of us, the movie seems dated, partly because Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) remain so open-minded and skeptical, respectively, after all these years. These same arguments, still?
But the dated quality stems primarily from the story, which fails to reflect a surge in network dramas involving crime and/or the paranormal since "X-Files" ended in 2002. Amid an entertainment landscape full of cold cases and ghost whisperers, the revelations in "I Want To Believe" don't seem particularly out there.
