Christine Baranski (born May 2, 1952) is an American stage and screen actress. Christine made her stage debut in the Off Broadway production of "Coming Attractions" in 1980. That same year she made her Broadway debut in "Hide & Seek." She has gone on to star in many stages productions, both on and Off Broadway, and earned two Tony Award® nominations, winning both - (1984's Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play for “Lips Together, Teeth Apart” and 1992’s Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play for “The Real Thing”).
Baranski has also had a notable TV and feature-film career. Her most noteworthy TV role came as Maryanne Thorpe opposite Cybill Shepherd on CBS’s “Cybill” from 1995 through 1998. Her role as the saucy, hard-drinking best friend of Shepherd’s character earned her four Emmy® Award nominations, for which she won one (1995’s Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series), and two Golden Globe® nominations.
She has also been involved in numerous movies including The Birdcage (1996), Cruel Intentions (1999), Bowfinger (1999), Chicago (2002), and Mamma Mia! (2008).
