2017 Bird Walks at Bridgeport
The South Yuba River Park Association will hold its 2017 bird walks at Bridgeport on the second Saturday of each month (except August and November). Expect to see wrentit, Nuttall's woodpecker, spotted towhees, black Phoebe, bald eagles and white-crowned sparrows. Meet at the park’s North Parking Lot (just past the South Yuba River-Pleasant Valley Road Bridge). Wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring binoculars.

2017 San Luis Obispo Heart & Stroke Walk
Nearly 600 people from San Luis Obispo and nearby cities are expected to participate in the San Luis Obispo Heart & Stroke Walk, sponsored locally by Dignity Health Central Coast, Sports Warehouse, Coastal Cardiology, Rabobank, Chevron, Pacific Western Bank and Wells Fargo. The 5K walk encourages healthy habits while raising funds to support the AHA’s research and education efforts to fight heart disease and stroke – the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers. As the number one cause of death in our nation, heart disease is also the No. 1 killer in SLO. Apart from the walk, the event features a health expo, educational booths, kid’s zone, refreshments & snacks.

2017 Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend
Tour, taste and toast your way through Butte County on Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Your passport opens the doors to amazing specialty farms and wineries where you’ll enjoy samples of tasty artisan olive oils, specialty nuts and award-winning wines, all while getting to know local farmers and winemakers behind them. Set their own pace as you explore a variety of the 34 farms and wineries along this year’s Farm Trail. Enjoy self-guided tours of the scenic agricultural trails, meet local farmers and winemakers, and sample the amazing bounty Butte County has to offer. This annual event is the only weekend that all farms along the Farm Trail are guaranteed to be open. Each of the 34 farms along the way pulls out all the stops to showcase our local culinary community! $30 Passports are available for pick-up on or before Friday, October 6 (or while supplies last) at any of our in-person Passport ticket pick-up locations: Tri Counties Bank Branches in Butte County and Chamber of Commerce offices in Chico and Oroville. $35 Passports will be sold during the event, while supplies last. Break Free Run, The Race To End Human Trafficking
Come join 3Strands Global Foundation, Saturday October 7th, at Lakeside Church for the 8th annual Break Free Run, The Race To End Human Trafficking. The run includes a 5k/10k run or walk and a kids fun run. The run begins at 8 A.M, but come join us at 7:30 A.M. to hear our amazing speakers. Cal OES California Day of Preparedness
Cal OES will host the 12th annual 'California Day of Preparedness' event in historic Old Sacramento. The event will kick off National Preparedness Month. California is prone to many disasters and all Californians should have a disaster plan and be ready to – survive the Wild West. Visitors will learn about emergency preparedness as well as experience a variety of disaster readiness demonstrations including a mobile earthquake simulator, watch water rescues, and see the skills of search and rescue dogs in action. This is a free, family-friendly event.
