California Family Halloween Hike & Seek
Join REI Co-op, Parks California and California State Parks PORTS (Parks Online Resources for Teachers and Students)® for their California Family Halloween Hike & Seek Challenge, a creative alternative to Trick-or-Treating this holiday season. The California Family Halloween Hike & Seek Challenge encourages families to get outside and explore their local parks, neighborhoods, and favorite trials this October while checking everything off the Hike & Seek list. Parents can visit the California Family Halloween Hike & Seek website, download the checklist and get hiking with the kids. Get ready to cross items off the Hike & Seek checklist, like strike your best zombie pose in front of your local park sign, spot some spider webs, find a creeping cat, attend REI Day with PORTS on Oct. 21, and more! Families are encouraged to share their experiences and photos of their adventures with the REI community on REI Conversations, REI’s digital community to learn, share and inspire each other to get outside.

Drive-In Hocus Pocus
The Cosumnes CSD is hosting a drive-in at Elk Grove Park on Friday, October 30! Watch as a curious youngster moves to Salem, Massachusetts, where he awakens the evil Sanderson sisters on Halloween night. Now, the witches are back and ready for a night of fun, magic and mischief. Advanced registration is required and space is limited. Hocus Pocus is rated PG and contains material that may not be suitable for children. Parental guidance is advised.

Enjoy Halloween Weekend with the Venardos Circus
The Venardos Circus, a touring Broadway-style animal free production, is thrilled to announce it will return with brand-new livestream productions over Halloween weekend, October 29th through November 1st. Access to the livestream will require a ticket which costs $19.95 per person, three for $29.99 or larger multi-pack discounts are available at their website here. Sponsorships are also available. Venardos Circus has pivoted from its usual format for the time being, in response to COVID-19. Livestreams provide the opportunity for The Venardos Circus to bring a little circus magic to audiences not only in the U.S. but around the world. Because we are doing live shows that weekend, we have expanded our livestream schedule and will be livestreaming ALL of that weekend’s shows so you can select a time that works best for your holiday weekend plans. Times based on Pacific time. “Halloween looks and feels different this year so we thought it would be fun to offer up our take on the holiday – circus-style,” explained Kevin Venardos, founder, and ringmaster of The Venardos Circus. “Join us for a ‘spooktacular’ good time and enjoy a livestream of our very first shows with a live audience since COVID from our current home in Central Oregon. We hope you’ll join us!” Livestreams will be shot with two 4K cameras including high-def sound, thus providing high-quality production value.

LIVE ONLINE: How to Draw Peanuts Halloween
Celebrate Halloween with the Peanuts Gang by learning to draw Charlie Brown in his bedsheet ghost costume, Lucy in her witches hat and mask, Snoopy as the WW1 Flying Ace, and maybe, if you are sincere enough, even the Great Pumpkin! Atlanta-based cartoonist Robert W. Pope will share live step-by-step drawing instruction during this spooktacular online event. For over 15 years, Pope has specialized in bringing many favorite characters to the comic book page, including Peanuts, Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny, Batman, and many others, and has contributed to several of the new Peanuts comic books. The event meets online on via Zoom. Advance registration required—register online or by calling (707) 284-1272. Zoom link will be emailed three days before the event. There are absolutely no refunds, credits, or cancellations for this event.

Mattel Opens Virtual “Fisher-Price™ Toy Museum” on Instagram to Celebrate the Brand’s 90th Birthday
Mattel has announced the grand opening of the Fisher-Price™ Toy Museum, a first-of-its-kind digital experience and virtual museum designed to celebrate the brand’s 90-year legacy. This museum is hosted via Instagram, and it enables visitors to relive their favorite toys through a curated exhibition. The museum also includes a digital gift shop that offers an assortment of apparel, accessories, housewares and more, featuring vintage imagery from Fisher-Price classic toys. At the museum, the legacy of Fisher-Price toys will be on full display. In honor of the brand’s anniversary year, the museum will feature more than 90 different exhibits that will be organized by decade, enabling visitors to easily locate the vintage toys from their childhood. The launch collection will include a variety of classic products creatively designed by artist, set designer, and photographer Leila Fakouri, who focused on keeping the toys as the star of each environment while incorporating dimensions and textures to create an authentic museum feel. A museum gift shop is included in the experience, housing 15 curated products that celebrate the brand’s timeless toys. Midtown Fall Festival
Come join us for the first annual Midtown Fall Festival! We have over 750 pumpkins for you to choose from as you find just the perfect one. We will have a variety of food trucks depending on the day. We have sweet and treats and games for the little ones. There will be performance from the Trainees of Sacramento Ballet as well as class demonstartions by the students in The School of Sacramento Ballet. We are practicing strict COVID-19 precautions. Tempertaures will be taken upon entry. Even though this is an all outdoor event, face coverings will be required for anyone over the ages of 2+. We ask that everyone practice social distancing while in the pumpkin patch, while perusing the local artisan vendors or waiting in any lines. We want everyone to have a fun and SAFE time!

Museum Monster Mayhem
Got the zoom blues? We get it- but this event will be like no other- fast-moving haunted fun. You and your family are invited to celebrate Halloween with the CSU Chico Valene Smith Museum of Anthropology. An array of activities and challenges await those who dare. Join the fun and slightly creepy experiences in the virtual museum zoom experience! $20 per family. No need to get in the car to travel far- just hop on your zoom for Halloween fun for all ages in your family. The evening is divided into 4 parts: 1. Costume Connection-- Share your costume with the zoom group! 2. Monster Art -- ceramicist, Preston Lawson (use your own clay- playdough, salt dough, or any other form of clay you have) teaches you how to turn a pinch pot into a scary monster. 3. Bat Ecology – Sharoukh Mistry, professor of biology at Butte College and Chico State, specializes in bat behavior. He will teach us the facts of bats around us and the truth about vampires! 4. The Haunted Savannah-- Finally, no Halloween is complete without a haunted story. Bay Area, storyteller, Linda Wright, regales us with a scary tale… like no other you have heard before…. Come in costume and bring the whole family for an evening of Halloween adventures you won’t soon forget! The Valene Smith Museum of Anthropology education team looks forward to seeing you this Halloween!

Pumpkin Patch Express at River Fox Train
Celebrate the Fall Harvest on an unforgettable train ride full of trick-or-treating, fun activities and good times. The fun continues at our private park with more trick-or-treating, gem mining, photo opportunities and pumpkin picking. We also encourage kids and parents alike to dress up in costumes and participate in our costume contest! Trip information This 2.5 hour experience is fun for kids of all ages. Each ticket includes a train ride, time at our private park, treats, a pumpkin and kids will get a bag with stickers to decorate it. All seating is open. Don’t forget to visit our Gift Shop! Due to COVID-19 restrictions, some experiences may be modified. The train ride will take place on our sanitary open-air cars with trick-or-treating one way only. Outside activities are spread out to maintain social distancing. Masks will be worn by all staff members and sanitizer stations will be located throughout the area. Food option Snacks and beverages, including beer, wine and mimosas, will be available for purchase on the train. Light concessions will also be available at the park. NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED ON THE TRAIN. Quarry Park Adventures - Drive-Ins at the Quarry
Quarry Park Adventures is proud to announce a brand-new program to bring some fun to the Quarry after dark every weekend through at least Halloween, Drive-Ins at the Quarry beginning Friday, Sept. 25th through at least Nov. 7th. Movies will begin at varying times (below) and tickets can be purchased online for $25 per car. Spaces are limited in the parking lot which will be converted on Drive-In weekends in partnership with City of Rocklin which was not able to produce their Movies in the Park series this summer due to COVID-19. All cars will be socially distanced. Masks will be required outside of patrons’ vehicles. Restrooms will be available with staff monitoring to manage crowding during queueing and minimize socializing. Packaged snacks will be available for purchase through Quarry Park Adventures and patrons are encouraged to bring their own snacks as well.
