After School Program at Soil Born Farms
This will be an opportunity for young women ages 13-18 to engage with the outdoor world and deepen their connection to themselves, their environment, their health, and each other. The program will build community and support teens in healthy transitions toward adulthood. Through interactions with the land, we aim to empower young women to build inner strength and confidence, as well as learn valuable leadership and life skills. Activities will include: gardening • cooking and eating together • health and nutrition • medicinal, edible and traditional uses of plants • wild crafted art • exploring the American River Parkway. The program will be flexible and adapted to meet the interests and passions of the group. Held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, September 13 to June 13, 2018 from 3:30 to 5:30pm. Family Herbalist Course, Beginners Program
Join Herbalist Candis Cantin and her team in learning the basics of Western Herbology while integrating it with Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese medicine. This six-month course will include medicine-making, plant ID, how to treat acute ailments, use of tonic herbs and food for strengthening vitality, as well as how to harvest local herbs for medicine. You will learn about your own constitutional needs and ways to balance yourself for better health and well-being. This program will include herb walks around the farm and the American River. There will be lots of tasting, smelling, and hands-on experience with the herbs! This end-of-wine harvest and Halloween-themed race runs through the Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys in late October, when the weather is ideal for running and the autumn-colored vineyards glow in the warm sunshine. Enter the costume contest, win wine awards for your age group, and enjoy wine-tasting, food, beer, exhibitors, live music and more. A Hallowine 5K is also offered, and is open to adults and kids ages 7 and older. Kids’ activities will be provided at the post-race wine & music.
