2017 San Luis Obispo Heart & Stroke Walk
Nearly 600 people from San Luis Obispo and nearby cities are expected to participate in the San Luis Obispo Heart & Stroke Walk, sponsored locally by Dignity Health Central Coast, Sports Warehouse, Coastal Cardiology, Rabobank, Chevron, Pacific Western Bank and Wells Fargo. The 5K walk encourages healthy habits while raising funds to support the AHA’s research and education efforts to fight heart disease and stroke – the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers. As the number one cause of death in our nation, heart disease is also the No. 1 killer in SLO. Apart from the walk, the event features a health expo, educational booths, kid’s zone, refreshments & snacks.

A Matter of Balance can help reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falling. This 8-week award-winning program can help participants to view falls and fear of falling as controllable; set realistic goals for increasing activity; change their environment to reduce fall risk factors; and promote exercise to increase strength and balance. Pre-registration required. Limit 10 students.

This event supports Stanford Youth Solutions, formerly Stanford Home for Children, a fantastic organization that inspires sustainable change for young people and their families and empowers them to solve serious challenges together. Stick around for the member appreciation event immediately after with demos by Fivestar Nutrition, a Live DJ, bounce house for kids and much, much more. Extreme boot camp will be offered at 8:00 am. The Member Appreciation event will start at 10:00 am. Donations accepted at the door.

Great American Hero 5K/10k Obstacle Challenge
Do you have attitude? Bring it. The Eagal Lakes Resort Great American Hero 5k/10k Obstacle Challenge has over 40 obstacles to challenge your endurance and fitness level, and is the first obstacle run with modified obstacles for all fitness levels from beginner to advanced. Run in remembrance, for your personal hero, or to support all the everyday heroes’ both at home and abroad; proceeds will benefit the Semper Fi Fund. All participants will receive an official performance T-shirt, a goodie bag, a finishers medal and one free beer (must be over 21). After the race, there will be music by DJ Chago, a Beer Garden, and food and shopping.
