This San Francisco gallery found hidden behind a stone facade, is a unique gallery featuring Vintage and Contemporary 20th century photography. Bay Area notables such as Dorothea Lange can be found; however, the gallery features a wide survey of 20th century American photographers with an emphasis on figurative, portraiture, social documentary, pictorialism and children / coming of age imagery. A real San Francisco find.
Located in the Russian Hill neighborhood, the gallery is nestled between cafes & bistros of Polk & Hyde streets, at the corner of Larkin street and Pacific avenue. With 100's of photographs on view, hung through-out three rooms, it is a feast for the eyes, and the puppies will give you a warm greating.
ps. The Gendell Gallery website (www.gendellgalelry.com) provides an excellent overview, so you can re-visit images that you are still pondering after you leave. Look for the double GG signs hanging over the gallery. Bring change for the meters. Enjoy!
