Uncle Vanya

The show was a little long, but incredible! The set had a very old photo look to it (kind of a sepia-tone, that really set the mood.). By the way, I thought it was a comedy, but it is not! It had some funny moments, a very breathtaking, passionate love scene, and incredible heartbreak. I thought every member of this cast was perfect in their respective roles. The pre-show announcements were very entertaining too. There were also some surprises, and excitement that I didn't expect after intermission. To say that I was shocked, is an understatement! I would recommend seeing it, but don't forget your kleenex, or your heart monitor(AND tell the babysitter you'll be a little late!)!

I saw this play, "Uncle Vanya", on the opening weekend on September 19, 2008. This play production is superb and I highly recommend it to any serious theatre lover who has an appreciation for profound artistic work. This is an excellent new translation and interpretation of Chekhov’s play. Although this play is set in the original time period during which Chekhov lived, it applies to any age because it is such a strong character study of people in general. I was thoroughly and emotionally moved by this play which was marvelously performed by an excellent cast. Everything about this production and the theatre was very professional and so well designed and crafted: the play, the cast, the direction, the set design, the lighting, the sound effects, the well designed intimate theatre, the art gallery, the coffee shop, the building, the restrooms, and so much more. The actors have done a superb job of developing and transitioning their characters during the lengthy first act to the climactic moments of the less lengthy second act. I sincerely thank all those involved in this moving production, a most valuable and wonderful gift to the public.
