The Cataracs are an Indie-Pop band based in Los Angeles, California. Originally from Berkeley, California  the band consists of David Benjamin Singer-Vine “Campaâ€* and Niles Hollowell Dhar “Cyrano.â€*  The duo initially started out in their high school years at Berkeley High School. The band was originally formed in the year 2003 and has been together ever since.
It is an interesting story about how the band was formed. During their sophomore year at Berkeley high school, Singer-Vine recorded a rap song and circulated the CD of it around school campus. Dhar eventually came across it and responded to this CD by making a diss song in retaliation as a joke. The two eventually met, started recording together and decided to form a band. The name of the band is another story – the name Cataracs comes from a song titled “Whats My Nameâ€* that was written and performed by Snoop Dogg, one of their favorite rap artists. They thought it was funny that one could “Smoke ’til your eyes get cataracts,â€* a lyric in the song. Another interpretation of their name however as the band suggests is that they “see things differently.â€*
In the year 2006, they got their first break when they released a single together with Berkeley, California native music band ‘The Pack’. The song was titled ‘Blueberry Afgani’. This song became quite popular and subsequently became 1 of one of the most downloaded songs from reputed sites like The Fader and XLR8R. These internet sites also praised the song for its rendition. In the course of that time, the song got the title of ‘download of the week’.
The Cataracs would not have turned into a success if the duo had stuck to high school by Text-Enhance" href="http://www.itsthecataracs.com/about/the-cataracs/#">and college . In 2006, they graduated from high school and decided to pursue music full time. They moved to Los Angeles for better prospects. They came up with songs like ‘Baby Baby’ which was featured on the reality tv series – “Keeping up with the Kardashiansâ€*.
They had released about three albums by the end of the year 2008. The Cataracs were on Myspace one day and came across singer Dev who was a native Californian. Most of her work was updated on her MySpace page. The Cataracs invited Dev to record with them. In the year 2009, together with Dev, The Cataracs achieved more fame and also released their hit song ‘2Nite’. The success of the song landed The Cataracs and Dev on the Billboard charts.
Some of the studio albums that have been produces by The Cataracs are “Techonohop Vol. 1″ in the year 2006, “Techonohop Vol. 2″ inside the year 2007, “The 13th Gradeâ€* in the year 2008, “Lingerieâ€* inside the year 2008 and their latest album will be released in 2012 on Universal Republic Records. They’ve also been featured as an artist with numerous other bands such as Shwayze, New Boyz, and Glasses Malone, and 50 Cent. The Cataracs are also the sole producers and co-wrote many of the songs on Dev’s debut album “The Night the Sun Came Upâ€* .
 
Starting Six:
When East Bay California friends Bread, Nic Nac, Riggz, Fess, Goose and Big Steve decided to make a video for their “Thirstyâ€* song back in 2009, they were doing it simply for fun. Recording as the group Starting Six, the longtime friends didn’t expect to get much of a reaction when they posted the clip on YouTube. “I was just juiced that we did it,â€* Bread says. “I thought only our families were going to see it, that the most we’d get is like 100 views and that would be all from relatives and friends. But when the week was done and we already had 10,000 views, it was like, ‘Whoa. What is going on? Who’s watching this video?’ We had no idea that people were noticing us like that.â€* As word spread virally about the video – which now has more than 1.5 million views – the high energy clip for “Thirsty,â€* which featuring Starting Six hosting a party and getting with a bevy of shapely women, the crew started going to parties where people would play the “Thirstyâ€* video to get their own party hyped. Then, the sextet started getting booked for shows. “We were broke and they said they would pay us, so it was kind of like, ‘Why not?’â€* Nic Nac says. “Once we started doing performances for people, we were forced to keep doing it.â€* Prior to “Thirsty,â€* Starting Six were randomly making songs with no set schedule. Producer-rapper, Nic Nac was producing rappers on the side, Riggz was attending UCLA (and now attends USC law school), Fess was dealing with his garbled English (he’s half Peruvian and his mother doesn’t speak English), Goose was busy staying out of debates (he’s also known as “Middle Earthâ€* and “Grayâ€* because he always remains neutral), Bread was focused on hoops (the group gets its name because they’re six of them and they all played on the high school basketball team together) and Big Steve was busy cracking jokes, making stupid faces and rapping and making beats. So the friends who grew up listening to the Ying Yang Twins and such Bay Area staples as E-40 and Mac Dre decided to get serious about making music. It helped that their creative formula wasn’t particularly stressful. They’d get intoxicated, hit the studio, listen to beats, come up with song concepts and feed off of each other. Within a few hours, a song was typically in the can. Given that Starting Six party virtually every day, it’s no surprise that the group’s music often has an energetic, feel-good vibe. “We set out to make music that we would like to hear,â€* Bread says. “There’s times on the radio when you start hearing artists or songs that sound hella generic. We were tired of slapping music we didn’t want to listen to. So we’re like, ‘We’ll make our own music, stuff we want to play at parties, that we want to ride around to, smoke to, drink to, party with girls with.’â€* With the video for follow-up song “Yogiâ€* (the group’s code word for having sex without a condom) garnering hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube, Starting Six decided to record an actual project. Released in July 2011, the free mixtape Let’s Talk About S6x was the crew’s first official release. Let’s Talk About S6x single “This Ain’t Waterâ€* appears to be the group’s first radio smash. Featuring Los Angeles rapper Mann, the club-ready cut has already been getting radio play throughout the West Coast, including Power 106 in Los Angeles, 99.7 Now in San Francisco and B95 in Fresno. In order to better pursue their music careers, Starting Six moved to Los Angeles in June 2011. They’ve got a second mixtape coming out soon and are in discussions with television networks about having a reality show focused on the group and its culture. What started out as something to do with each other has quickly morphed into something much bigger. “We were doing it just for us,â€* Bread says. “Now that people are hella liking it, why stop?â€*
 
Skye Stevens:
Take one look at Skye Stevens  and you know this kid's a star and a triple threat. I say "kid" because Skye is only 18, and I say "triple threat" because this newcomer can sing, dance and write music. Born in Boston, Skye attended Orleans School of the Arts in Cape Cod. At 8, he started dancing competitively, at 10, Skye performed at the 76th Annual Macy's Day Parade on the official Macy's float, and at 17, he was part of the international touring company for the Broadway play "Miss Saigon." Slated to (hopefully) become the first-ever Armenian pop star, Skye is already demolishing the dance charts with his first music video and single, "Takes All Night." The song recently landed the third spot on Billboard's Breakouts Chart for Hot Dance Club Play, and although it's only been live for six weeks, the video has already earned 700,000 views. Baller status.
Skye's "Takes All Night" sounds like a mix between Usher and Chris Brown with a hint of a David Guetta club beat. In the video, Skye rides around town on a bike as he follows his leading lady. The beat by Text-Enhance" href="http://buzzworthy.mtv.com/2012/04/18/skye-stevens-takes-all-night/#">pumps and Skye pauses for a quick dance break, but not before he makes it clear that he's taking his chick home with him immediately: "And baby if it takes all night/ Up in this club.../ This feeling I got/ Is telling me you could be the one/ So baby, if it takes all night/ I'm taking you home." The video ends with a another dope dance break, and even though we don't quite see this duo go home together, we have a hunch that any normal girl is not gonna pass up the chance to by Text-Enhance" href="http://buzzworthy.mtv.com/2012/04/18/skye-stevens-takes-all-night/#">hook up with a cute dude who can sing, dance and will probably be famous in like, five minutes. That's a catch if I've ever seen one.
 
Trevor Simpson
Coming into his own at all of 14-years in Boulder, Colorado, Trevor Simpson’s obsession with electronic music production led him to his first set of turntables, and his destiny. Trevor became hooked on all things dance music, ultimately guiding him into a lifelong commitment to music and entertainment. His teen years were spent perfecting his craft and from his experiences, his first brainchild “Torque Productions,â€* an underground event company and clothing label, was born. In 1998, Torque Productions relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where it has thrived to its fullest potential. San Francisco, infamous for its rich history of the saucy underground and all things taboo, has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to entertainment. Her fast growing nightclub and underground party scene opened the doors to a unique opportunity for Trevor. In 2005, Trevor branched out into the FM radio world as the music director for Energy 92.7 FM, San Francisco’s Pure Dance radio station. His daily “mix at 6â€* became Bay Area commuters’ carpool companion during rush hour. Trevor has since moved to San Francisco’s top rated station CBS Radio KMVQ 99.7 Now FM. Trevor’s work with KMVQ has given electronic music a voice on pop radio waves as well as monopolizing the title of sole Bay Area station for house music. Trevor is also the Program Director for Pulse KMVQ HD2, the Bay Area’s only radio station strictly dedicated to electronic music. Along with The House Nation Crew and St. John every Saturday night, Trevor hosts his one of a kind “Clubbers Commuteâ€* that allows late night thrill seekers to keep the party going even after the club doors are closed. Such successes have earned Trevor merits like 7x7 Magazine’s “Best Party in a Boxâ€* award. His hard work and dedication has allowed him to head the house music revolution, and to be an inspiration for the newest generation of club goers. Always on the heels of the evolution of electronic music, Trevor has gained much recognition and is highly sought after for remixes by esteemed artists including Lady Gaga, Lmfao, M.I.A., Far East Movement, Kaskade, Jason Derulo, The Cataracs, Dev, and Sylvia Tosun. His unrivaled talent and creative ability is irrefutable in his mix of Sylvia Tosun’s #1 Billboard smash “Push n Pull.â€* Trevor’s newest commissioned project is remixing “Fire In Your New Shoesâ€* for Kaskade adding verses from The Cataracs and Dev.
