“Wilkommen!, Bienvenue!, Welcome! to the Cabaret” sings the emcee of Berlin’s Kit Kat Club through painted lips. It’s 1929 pre-war Germany and the decadent Kit Kat Club mirrors life in the doomed city. “Cabaret” develops as two stories in one: first, the revue centered on the decadence of the seedy club, and second in the lives that intersect in the real world outside the club.
