Waitress

Musical
Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this new hit features original music and lyrics by six-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson ("I Am Sam") and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus ("Hair," "Pippin," "Finding Neverland"). Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, "Waitress" tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.

Shen Yun

Classical Dance, Ethnic
This epic production immerses American audiences in stories reaching back to the most distant Chinese past, with acrobatic dancing colorful costuming, high-tech backdrops, and live orchestra. The company, based on Long Island, features a large cast performing intricate, synchronised routines to the pop-eastern sounds of a live orchestra. Shen Yun is affiliated with the Chinese spiritual movement known as Falun Gong, which the Chinese government considers dangerously religious and tries to suppress both within its borders and in the wider world.

Les Miserables: National Tour

Musical
Cameron Mackintosh presents the new production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, "Les Misérables," direct from an acclaimed two-and-a-half-year return to Broadway. This beloved musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg is based on Hugo's famous novel of 19th-century France. The action begins in 1815 as Jean Valjean is condemned to 19 years of hard labor for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his family. When he is released on parole, he finds only hatred and suspicion. Meeting one man who believes in him, Valjean breaks his parole to begin a new life. The story truly begins as Jean Valjean crosses the landscape of France, always pursued by the righteous police inspector Javert. From Valjean's adoption and love of the orphan Cosette, to the darkly funny plots of the thieving Thenardiers, from the soaring revolutionary fire set by student rebels fighting in the streets of Paris to the final confrontation between Jean Valjean and Javert, this story is one of love, courage and redemption. As the now-famous lyric from the show says, "To love another person is to see the face of God."

David Sedaris

Solo Performance, Signing/Readings, Comedy
Tweaking the familiar until it warps; David Sedaris mines poignant comedy from his peculiar childhood in North Carolina, his bizarre career path, and his move with his lover to France. David Sedaris' wickedly witty observations of the ordinary-bizarre is always sure to deliver insights and laughs. One of six children in a second-generation Greek family, he grew up in Raleigh, NC. In 1977, he dropped out of Kent State University to hitchhike around the country. Aside from working as an elf, Sedaris has worked a number of charmingly quirky jobs such as a house painter, an apple picker, an aide in a mental hospital, a creative writing teacher at the Art Institute of Chicago, and an apartment cleaner. Sedaris made his comic debut recounting his strange-but-true experiences of being a Macy's elf, reading his "Santaland Diaries" on National Public Radio's Morning Edition in 1992. His sardonic humor and incisive social critique have made him one of NPR's most popular and humorous commentators. In 2001, he was named Humorist of the Year by Time magazine and received the Thurber Prize for American Humor. The author of "Barrel Fever" and "Holiday on Ice," as well as bestselling memoirs "Naked," "Me Talk Pretty One Day," "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim," "When You Are Engulfed in Flames" and most recently, "Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls," his next book, "Theft by Finding," due out in the summer of 2017, will be a collection of his diaries.
